BLAME - Probably the best way to strangle your Safety Culture
Too often Businesses take the easy route and blame the victim, rather than CAUSE of poor safety management.
Hindsight is cruel and unforgiving, making any fault seem starkly predictable and obvious. It takes real leadership to turn the focus on yourself and evaluate your role in the outcome before shooting the poor bloke that has been caught out.
So what are the options?
1. BLAME - surrender your ability to influence the outcome, transfer all your power to the person 'at fault', and accept the status-quo.
2. OWN the issue - Understand that you influence everything around you, if there has been an error or incident YOU are responsible for it, it happened on YOUR watch. Feel the sense of responsibility? Good, that responsibility is the fuel needed to take your business and safety to the next level.
Want a Smarter, Simpler, Safer workplace? Take ownership and continually press for new and better ways to be doing things, you'll benefit, and so will your workplace.
